The Orange Shoes

My watercolour paintings show my response to the world around me, at home or further afield. This is my third SAW and yet I still don't think I have a particular subject. So there are barns and boats, shoes and sheep, people and places - a bit of a muddle, but, I hope, a colourful and carefully observed muddle! I like to try fresh modern techniques as well as the more traditional apprach.

I begin by trying to get what I see onto the paper, then at some point the image takes over. I find a backbone of drawing frees up the painting, and I often alternate the two. I sometimes use oil pastels, acrylic inks and pastel pencils as well as watercolour.

I have undertaken several commissions featuring local houses, churches and other interesting buildings.
