Born with a passion for painting and with no formal training I am completely self taught and as a result of perseverence, practice and self belief tried to create an individual style. What drives me is the constant desire to be different with the techniques I use to paint elements in a scene. I am forever pushing myself and experimenting with new ideas. Being different and painting something that has not been done before in a unique manner is what creating a great piece of art is all about. I was once told that anyone who has the desire to learn the skills to paint will succeed.
Having always lived in the countryside and by the sea, I have developed a strong feeling and affinity for the landscape and the coast. Subjects that show an interesting quality of light attract me like dramatic skies, coasts, moorlands and hills. Trees and wild flowers are also subjects I feel compelled to paint for their vibrant colours and interesting shapes.
Inspiration is close at hand in the countryside around us and I am never short of subjects to paint. You do not need to travel far even your garden can be a huge source of inspiration. When observed more closely you can find great beauty in what might go unnoticed by the casual observer.
I paint subjects that interest me using a wide variety of materials from watercolours, acyrics, oils, inks and textured moulding pastes for my mixed media work.
