After completing an art foundation course in the early 60’s I went on to train and then work as an interior designer in Knightsbridge. Returning to study recently at UCY has proved to be a great experience which has really triggered my interest in becoming a practising artist after years of being more of an administrator.
I had long held a passion to travel, so once my children were grown up I took the opportunity to make a series of independent trips. I enjoyed steeping myself in the colour, culture and of course smells of several countries including India. By travelling alone I have been able to meet local people and experience some of their exciting festivals, which have left many colourful ideas buzzing in my head!
For the past 20 years we have enjoyed regular holidays in a small Greek house, on a remote Greek island. All these travel experiences and more recent visits to Australia are part of what I hope to pin down on paper. Currently I find the freedom of charcoal drawings a good way to start off, followed by more controlled etchings, perhaps completing the project with an interpretation via an artist's book.
I am looking forward to taking part in SAW 2012, having thoroughly enjoyed my first experience of taking part last year. I exhibited with 3 others in our 600 year old farmhouse - where two converted stables (now used as a sitting room) provided a sympathetic background for the art. Visitors seemed to enjoy the peaceful ambience while they studied our work.
