Born and raised in Kenya, I studied Fine Art (Sculpture), graduating from the Byam Shaw School of Art, London with distinction in ‘87. Now based in Somerset, I make predominantly sculptural pieces using steel, copper, wire and found materials. My work reflects an interest in the vitality and essence of life; textured, primal, woven or skeletal structures inspired by forms such as nests, reptiles, insects and cocoons. There is something special about the woven form, it is a very instinctive process and represents so much - energy, birth, home and protection... I love the contrast of bulbous forms against elongated fragility. I exhibit extensively, run workshops for children and adults and hold occasional artist-in-residence posts.
Prizewinner at the Atkinson Gallery Summer Show ’11 and winner of the 3d award for 'Wildlife Artist of the Year ‘09', Mall Galleries, London (for David Shepherd's Wildlife Foundation), I recently formed the Scraptors group with 3 other sculptors, and installed a Sculpture Trail at Stourhead National Trust Estate involving over 70 pieces (running 1 - 30 Sept '11). Other works include a large recycled steel and wire 'Dragonfly emerging from Nymph', sited at Carymoor Environmental Centre, Castle Cary and a giant 5 metre Spider, created as a public recycling project for Glastonbury Festival's Greenfields '10.
