For the past thirty years I have collected textiles such as carpets, kilims, tribal and nomadic embroideries, costume and jewellery from India, Sri Lanka, Anatolia, Caucasia and The Gambia. With tribal and nomadic pieces the use of "found objects" and the ingenious use of materials as embellishments and decorative features has always fascinated me.
The inspiration for most of my jewellery comes from old tribal and nomadic costume that incorporated pieces of lead, brass, shells, coins and beads with fabric. Other pieces I create are more sculptural and can be hung on a wall just as much as they can be worn for adornment. I use copper, brass, silver, linen, cotton, wool, glass and ceramic beads as well as antique pieces from broken necklaces and costume.
