I am a self-taught landscape & portrait painter working in oil on board. Most of my professional life has been as designer/co-performer in Brog Puppets, a travelling puppet theatre run jointly with my husband. Mr & Mrs Brog have now retired and I am concentrating on painting as a profession. The 'treescapes' shown here are examples of my response to the combes and hills of the Quantocks which I find a continual & inexhaustable inspiration. The slanting light on moss-covered trees; the varied richness of leaf colour & their shadows in summer; and most of all the enticing network of paths leading the eye on a mysterious journey. I use all sorts of odd dimensions of board and have been experimenting with a variety of tools such as sticks, nails and palette knives[as well as fingers & thunbs!] as techniques for my expression. Following a good response to Somersetartweeks 2004 I have had some portrait commissions in Somerset [as well as further afield] and will have a few examples of my portraiture on show this year for anyone interested in commissioning either a painting or a sketch in oils.
