Theme: COUNTRYSIDE MATTERS

The gentle countryside and rolling hills have for centuries been home to Somerset’s apple orchards, providing its communities with food and drink - a lifeline which is so entwined in Somerset’s identity that it has become a symbol of Somerset’s soul.

The landscape, the orchards and the fruit are separate yet interdependent elements, yielding intersections in time and space which are deserving of sympathetic representation. Margaret has developed a series of works exploring these intertwining elements. Local apple and walnut wood ash have formed the basis for some of her glazes, applied to a variety of clays.

During a period of our history much concerned with balance in our countryside, and with new focus on the importance of orchards in and beyond the region, Margaret hopes that you find her work not only beautiful but also stimulating.
