Regardless of the medium or technique used, my work has always been an exploration of the decorative potential of construction - where the interplay of light and shadow and the way in which the component parts are put together produce a rich texture and a strong decorative presence which is not just applied surface decoration. I started as a 3-dimensional designer, designing and making objects in combinations of wood, metal, ceramics and glass, moving on to architecture and, this year into the new and exciting oppotunities presented by an old technique: cane basketmaking; and by a recent development in the ancient craft of feltmaking: nuno or laminated felt.
