'Arise my love...'

Having tried for years to fit into a specific category I find that I cannot. My work includes church embroidery, fine art mixed media pieces, puppets and costume, all under the umbrella of textiles and also including the teaching of art,design and textiles to all ages and levels.

My original specialisms at art school were woven textiles and goldwork (an ancient technique of applying gold kid, semi-precious stones and metal wires to the surface of fabrics). Although I continue to use goldwork techniques it is becoming more expensive for commissioners and therefore I now use far more machine embroidery which brings a different element to my work.

The one strand running through all my work has been, and continues to be, the element of teaching. I love running workshops whether for children or adults and in whatever area of art and design required. As long as it's fun.
