SAW Projects - Maximum Exposure Update

The Maximum Exposure artist commissions are progressing with all of the artists well into the research and initial production of their proposed projects.

Illuminos continue their site visits to the pillboxes of our landscape and are starting to work with a local coordinator who will assist them in raising awareness of the project locally and also gathering  knowledge on the pillboxes and people's relationships to them. Using website, archive, projection and endurance, for Maximum Exposure Illuminos will be creating a unique video projection event along the Taunton Stop Line.  Built during World War II, the Taunton Stop Line consists of hundreds of ‘pill boxes’ - military bunkers designed to stop a potential German advance from the west. They are also in contact with the Stop Line Forum who have been generous with their knowledge.

Karen Guthrie  For Maximum Exposure she will be creating a video work about the context and culture within and around the prison, HMP Shepton Mallet and is currently gathering information on the prison and its visitor culture. She is in contact with the prison services and is developing her project ideas around the outcomes of this relationship.

For Maximum Exposure Barber Swindells will be responding to the history and current industry of glove making in Yeovil and the surrounding district. They have made several site visits to the area, visiting Pittards tanning factory, Southcombe Bros family glove making business and the Bath Fashion Museum as part of their research on glove making.

All project updates will be on the SAW website in the new year as the first research stage of the commission is completed. We will also have more news in the new year about dates for the projects presentation.
