Somerset Art Weeks always aims to highlight the enormous variety of talented and creative visual artists working across the county and find the best ways of presenting their work to you, the public, in the most accessible and exciting ways.
Art Weeks 2011: Exhibitions and Events is a celebration of the work of around 400 artists, in over 100 venues across the county. This year’s event provides the opportunity for artists and makers, who are eager to get out of their studios and workshops, to explore new ways of working together, often around a particular theme or in response to a particular environment, and present their work in different and sometimes unexpected ways and places.
Venues range from heritage sites, such as Hestercombe Garden at Taunton and Muchelney Abbey near Langport, to the Tithe Barn at Cotley near Chard and the Fleet Air Arm Museum at Yeovilton. Of course, there will also be many exhibitions and events take place in public locations, in Village Halls, cafes, hotels, galleries etc.
A wide range of media is represented from 3D materials, such as ceramics, textiles, wood, stone, metal and glass, to 2D media such as painting, drawing, photography, digital technology, as well as installations and live/performance art. There is, certainly, something for everybody to see, touch, take part in, have a go or simply watch and enjoy. And, it is all free!
Make sure that you have an Art Weeks Guide with you as you travel around the county, and visit our website www.somersetartworks.org.uk for the latest news during the event. Have a great two weeks!
