Exmoor National Dress: Works by Karen Guthrie

Venue number:
3
Somerset Art Weeks:
2009

Artist Karen Guthrie created a hypothetical ‘national dress’ for Exmoor specifically, which celebrates its ‘specialness’ from the rest of England and embodies the characteristics of the people she had met during her residency in Exmoor National Park. A range of costumes components were created integrating the utopian-feeling Exmoor landscape prints by Maurice Bishop and objects commissioned from local makers.

A series of photographs and a film will be shown at The Brewhouse (venue 14) depicting wide range of Exmoor people wearing the costume.

Part of Triparks, a project brought together six artists working across the UK in three national parks: Dartmoor, Exmoor and Northumberland.
